NSW Protected Disclosure in Early Childhood
NSW's new Protected Disclosure (Whistleblower) legislation for Early Childhood staff - covering what can be reported, how to report it, and the legal protections that keep those who report safe.
Course Details
In 2026, the NSW government expanded on the National Reforms to the Early Childhood Education and Care sector to further improve children's safety and wellbeing. As part of these reforms, Approved Providers and Services in NSW must meet Protected Disclosure requirements. In this course, Dr Mary Anne Hall explores the new Protected Disclosure legislation (also called Whistleblower legislation), which provides protections for employees in the NSW Early Childhood sector. Educators and staff need to understand the role of this legislation in child safety, their reporting responsibilities, and how to feel empowered to raise concerns about safety or misconduct. The course explains what can be reported, how to make a Protected Disclosure, and how the law protects those who report misconduct from harm. Approved Providers and services in NSW are also required to develop a Protected Disclosures policy and provide staff with regular training. Designed specifically for staff in NSW Early Childhood Services, this short course supports Educators and management to understand their obligations and confidently respond to concerns, including following the correct reporting procedures. It combines videos, informative slides, written content and quizzes to support learning and reinforce key concepts. Assessment questions can be attempted an unlimited number of times, and a certificate of completion is issued once all questions are answered successfully. All courses are available online 24/7 and can be accessed on any digital device.
